Students who want to learn more about the possible fields of study at Lake Forest College, whether they have decided on a major or not, can take advantage of a new Spring event highlighting the College's academic departments.

The new "Majors Fair," which will be held for the first time ever on March 4, will resemble the Spring Student Involvement Fair held in previous years.

Instead of promoting student organizations, it will allow members of each department to talk to students about the department's requirements for earning a major or minor in that field.

"I believe that students will be pretty excited about this," said Associate Dean of Students Chris Waugh, who directs the Gates Center for Leadership and Personal Growth. To take full advantage of the Fair, Waugh said he "would encourage students to look at the Career Advancement Center (CAC) online before attending, and see where their interests lie." He added that he isn't sure exactly how the debut of this event will go, but he expects that it will be popular.

Like last year's Spring Involvement Fair, the Majors Fair will be held in the Mohr Student Center. Along with a booth for every academic department, there will be a booth for the CAC, which is organizing and promoting the fair along with the Gates Center and Dean of Faculty Janet McCracken.

Although the event is primarily focused on educating freshman and sophomore students who have yet to declare a major, Waugh hopes the event will be helpful to students at all levels.

"[Students who already have a major] are also part of this conversation," he said.

"You may learn that you're only two classes short of a minor, or you may learn about different career paths within your major."
