Letters To The Editor: Eisenberg responds

First off I'd like to say I'm flattered (and surprised) that my article, Walk of Shame, which was intended to be silly, lighthearted, and fun, has sparked some Stentor controversy. Honestly, I enjoyed reading Jessamyn's interpretation of my article and also her thoughts on my personal beliefs. Overall the best part of her article was her argument that I, a 21-year-old female college student, support sexual harassment of women. This statement was comical, interesting, and must have been conjured up through an expansive imagination and great creativity.
Had she had the chance to see the original article which includes a paragraph about a senior male who has a walk of shame in his Halloween costume, she would have realized I do not support sexual harassment of women and might have assumed I support all sexual harassment, no bounds on gender.
Yes. I probably should have realized before writing- realized that there are too many people in this student body who think they are too important and take themselves too seriously. It is complaints like "Shame on you Eisenberg" that forces the Stentor to practice a small amount of censorship, leaving them in a cookie cutter mold with simple articles about speakers, politics, and sports. This is why the Stentor has lost a giant amount of the student body's curiosity and is left consciously searching for new columnists.
It's college. College is controversial and those offended by common college occurrence (not sexual harassment, but the walk of shame, because there is a difference) might be better set at nice Catholic institution where sin, shame, and sex have no presence.
Lastly, I think it is important for the Lake Forest student body to know that my article was meant to be humorous and we should all remember, in Tom Petty's famous words:
"You have four years to be irresponsible here. Relax. Work is for people with jobs. You'll never remember class time, but you'll remember time you wasted hanging out with your friends. So, stay out late. Go out on a Tuesday with your friends when you have a paper due Wednesday. Spend money you don't have. Drink 'til sunrise. The work never ends, but college does..."
And don't be afraid, it is just a walk of shame.
